Although it is just the beginning of May, the weather has already started to warm up, allowing for good seas in the Saronic bay and along the riviera. We set sail on a cloudy Friday afternoon towards the west, visiting Aegina and Agistri islands for the weekend. We lowered the engines into the water at Sounion bay and we roamed west into the horizon.
The sail was very smooth, and the whole Saronic bay was like a lake all along the crossing. Soon, Our Garmin GPS was showing us speed, heading, depths and maps, as we approached the mountains of Methana ahead, Poros on the left, and Aegina on our right. We entered the port of Aegina in calm seas and we moored at a quiet place right next to some great cafes and restaurants for our lunch time.
We had a great lunch and dinner at the seaside, in front of all the happenings, and we took nice strolls in the evening alongside Aegina’s cosy inner street with the shops. We enjoyed our drinks at Panta rei, and we slept in the cabin of our rib comfortably, having the cool Saronic breeze.
The next day we set the engines a few miles further west, towards the small secluded island of Agistri. It is fully green, with wonderful green beaches and a picturesque port with the white church in front of it. The sail was only a few minutes and the view of the bay was just unique.
Our return trip back to Sounion bay was uneventful, with fair weather in the crossing, and cruising between 22 and 27 knots east. For our trip, we used the cabin rib boat Evripus 7.45 with Suzuki DF250.
Tips:
Aegina has a wonderful seaside atmosphere, full of shops, cafes, restaurants and a wonderful stroll. It is wonderful to swim nearby the town, but most of all it is fantastic to swim just opposite Aegina, at the small islet called “Moni”, which has crystal clear waters and a fun cantina for drinks.
Agistri is by itself the diamond of the Saronic bay. We can swim at the small fishing port, as well as at the plenty of secluded beaches with crystal clear green waters at its north – western side. A unique spot to swim is Aponisos beach, with fantastic waters and a great cantina with food and drinks.
